Integrative Systems Biology, Metabolomics and Cancer

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Consolidate research group of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia from 1997 (1997SGR00317, 1999SGR00033, 2001SGR00111, 2005SGR00204 ). It belongs to the Centre for Research in Theoretical Chemistry (CeRQT) at Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB) and it is a virtual group of the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer IDIBAPS. The research group is a Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) associated unit through its Chemical and Environmental Research Institute of Barcelona J. Pascual Vila (IIQAB-CSIC).

Lines of research

Our group develops an interdisciplinary research using biochemical, cell and molecular biology methods together with bioinformatics to achieve an integrated analysis of biological systems.

Cancer therapy
bullet Study of the differences of glucose regulation metabolism among normal and different tumoral cell lines
bullet Design of antitumoral therapy strategies based on the inhibition of different steps of pentoses-phosphate pathway
bullet Characterization of antitumoral drug effects at cellular and metabolic level
Drug development from natural products for pharmacological, cosmetic or food industries
bullet Study of the antitumoral and antioxidant properties of bioactive polyphenols extracted out of subproducts from the agricultural and forest industries
Control and regulation analysis of biochemical systems with biomedical or biothecnological purposes
bullet Modeling of metabolic pathways and prediction of genetic manipulation consequences towards a therapeutic or industrial purpose
bullet Sofware package development using Mathematica(R) for the analysis and modeling of metabolic pathways
bullet Design analysis and optimization of metabolic pathway regulatory patterns
bullet Theoretical development and experimental application of  Metabolic Control Analysis (MCA) and  Biochemical Systems Theory (BST)
bullet Modeling of biochemical systems using kinetic or stocastic methods
bullet Study of enzyme-enzyme interactions and biopolimers-enzymes binding
