A) Alteracions en el metabolisme de carbohidrats en la diabetis: Hom estudia la regulació del metabolisme dels carbohidrats emprant cultius primaris d’hepatòcits i de cèl.lules musculars, per tal d’aclarir aspectes del control hormonal de la glicòlisi/gluconeogènesi i del metabolisme del glicogen, tant en cèl.lules procedents d’animals normals com en diabètics, per tal d’aclarir les bases moleculars del defecte metabòlic inherent a aquesta alteració.
B) Estructura/funció d’enzims del metabolisme del glicogen: Estem interessats en aclarir els mecanismes moleculars que determinen l’activitat i la regulació de diversos enzims del metabolisme del glicogen (glicogen sintasa i enzim ramificant de glicogen). Per això hem commençat estudis amb la finalitat de disenyar sistemes de expressió recombinants per tal determinar la estructura tridimensional d’aquests enzims, i a partir d’aquesta utilitzar la mutagènesi dirigida com a eina per estudiar les relacions amb la seva funció biològica.
C) Agents insulinomimètics com a teràpies altenatives de la diabetis: S’avalua la possibilitat d’utilitzar diferents derivats del tungstat i molibdat en la teràpia de la diabetes; per a tal finalitat s’utilitzen diferents models d’animals diabètics i s’estudia l’efecte i eficàcia de la teràpia amb aquests agents a nivell clínic, bioquímic, patològic i toxicològic. |
